Delayed start for Argo and Maserati--both boats and the race committee agreed to delay the start until 2pm* Antigua time(1pm Eastern). The idea is to give Argo the time she needs to finish getting ready after her capsize the other day. Giovanni Soldini agreed to the delay so Maserati and Argo could race together. The start should be broadcast live on the 600 website(previous post).

UPDATE-live coverage starts at 12:45 Eastern

MOD 70 Start: Argo was in a much better position at the start. Maserati tried to tack and stalled out. But then she started flying! And rapidly gained on Argo-outpointing Argo by several degrees and going faster. Seems to handle the rough water much better than Argo......

Soldini may have given up a chance at line honors for the whole race by agreeing to the late start-very generous on his part.
    Go Maserati!

    Unfortunate news-Bella Mente has retired......

Wizard, an Open 70 leads the fleet by a large margin followed by Fujin , the Bieker designed cat.

Fujin is leading the fleet and doing 21.2 knots followed closely by Falcon, the DNA F4 -the only other full flying foiler in the race doing 23.5 knots and Wizard, the Volvo 70.
BUT, and this is a big but: Maserati is closing fast at 28 knots having already passed all the other MOCRA multihulls including Argo!!
God willing and the creek don't rise, Maserati will catch the others before the end of the day!

    Go Maserati!!

Maserati doing 30 knots and Fujin and Falcon each about 24-Wizard just behind them-Maserati just about 15 miles behind Fujin and rapidly gaining. Argo doing 27 knots and also ahead of all the Mocra multies except Fujin, Falcon and Maserati.

    Go Maserati!!(and Argo)

As of 10 pm Eastern Maserati is doing 30.3 knots, Argo 21.1. Maserati has about 24 miles to clear the last island at the top of the course.
At 10:24 it looks like Maserati missed a mark! Unless the tracker is wrong. She won a race a year or two ago when Phaedo missed the mark. Tell me its not true! Argo followed Maserati so its probably ok.......
The wind is around 18+ and goes up to 20 toward the bottom end of the course.

    Go Maserati(and Argo) !!!

    From EuroSail:
Showing enormous respect for their opposition, Giovanni Soldini's Maserati Multi70 (ITA) agreed to a delay to the race by just two hours to allow Jason Carroll's Argo (USA) just enough time to finish repairs to their MOD 70. The match race kicked off two hours after the rest of the fleet. At the start, Argo got away well, but Maserati was soon snapping at their rivals, playing the bays along the coast of Antigua. Snarling into an epic duel with the gloves full off. At Green Island, Maserati hit the after-burners, aided by their fully-foiling set up, screeching away at over 30 knots of boat speed. Maserati made Barbuda in 107 minutes, averaging an astonishing 26 knots.

As of 8 am this morning, Maserati and Argo both ahead of Phaedo's Record!
At 12:28 pm Maserati and Argo doing about 18 which is much slower than Mas should be going given her heading and wind strength.....
At 12:48 Maserati is still doing 18 while Argo is at 21.3-something wrong.see post below---
Something wrong with the tracker-Phaedos current position is way behind Argo and Mas-earlier they were shown much further around the course?
