Hull Types

Im wondering if anybody knows where i can get a paper or tutorial that explains the different types of hull shapes, what they are used for and basic particulars of each. ie Planning, Displacement etc

i wrote this a while ago for a website. Its a one of the first informative reviews i wrote, so isnt high quality, but explains a bit about various boats.

If you can get a hold of a copy of "great lakes boating" feb 2003 edition, i wrote an article in there explaining RIBs in particular, but it is related to all boat types in general, entitled "RIBs: how do you like yours"

Nothing personal Bobber, but after reading your listing on "hull shapes" I'm convinced you haven't done any real research or frankly know much on the subject. You have so many facts clearly incorrect, that it bothers me someone would post such gibberish and ask unknowing folks to take it as "help"

Why do people speak of things they do not know as if they do?


P.S. multi hull boats have been around for thousands of years Bubba . . .

You know your right. Im sorry. I have just read it myself, and it is rubbish. I wrote that back in 2000 it seems, which would have been before i started university, or during the first few months. Since obtained an HND/Degree in leisure boat design and building, from university, as well as got some experience under my belt now, mainly in RIBs mind you, and knowing what i know now, i have a hard time understanding what i wrote. I will have to rewrite that, maybe, dont think its worth it now, as its so old. But anyway, thankyou for pointing that out, if not a little harsh, but hey. So yeah, scrap that one.

The multihull point however was in reference to powerboats. I am well aware that multihulls have been around for a longg time, but not in powerboat form, which is what the basis of it was. Although very poor writing, and probably not clear.

 

You stated what others would think as fact. That was the harsh stuff, not my pointing in out to you. Powerboats in general are a relatively new thing on the block, cat or otherwise. Posting this fact would not have helped the article much . . .
