    Do you know any study that examines the certain properties of the system or any design that is achieved considering this approach?

    "New perspectives in experimentally predicting ships power performance"

    Synopsis

    Depending on several typologies of ships and their propulsion systems, different experimental methods are
    ordinarily applied for predicting ships power performance from model tests results. But, in the present
    author’s opinion, only innovative approaches giving up with resistance model tests can be expected to be the
    most promising in reliability terms: more specifically, model tests really appropriate to that purpose are
    British self-propulsion tests.
    As a last but not least significant aspect of such an innovative previsional approach, the present author has
    devised – in order to more rationally determine model and full scale advance speed of every kind propulsors
    - original and unified ways which, taking advantage of propulsion performance assessment and analysis made
    in the light of naval propulsors hydrodynamic theory, overcomes constraints and limitations involved in
    traditional procedures.
    In the present work, firstly background philosophy of the proposed previsional approach is illustrated, by
    duly remitting readers to pertaining references for related details; then, a review of possible perspectives in
    the ship power performance prediction research field is developed.

    Thanks a big task for CFD which (correct me if I'm wrong) can't accurately predict the drag coefficient of a flat plate at ship-scale.

    Seriously though, I have seen a few papers. Google up Fred Stern and his colleagues at IIT. I have some papers in a box somewhere I'll dig out when I get some time.

    I will work on it using Fluent. The information i have found is related with fluent and cfx advertisements or announcements. If i can find some published papers it will be good as a starting point.

    Neither cfx nor Fluent did particularly well on the test cases at a couple of CFD workshops. See, for example, the proceedings of
    "Gothenburg 2000 A Workshop on Numerical Ship Hydrodynamics", editors Lars Larsson, Frederick Stern and Volker Bertram.

    There was also a CFD workshop in Tokyo? in 2005 as well.
