How to make a hull in epoxy and fiberglass only from a mold — no vacuum

I spoke about paint in my very last post but… what do you mean?
 
Almost every boat in use is painted beneath the waterline.I suggest you spend a bit of time around boats before progressing with your project to learn the way things are done.On the subject of done,I'm done with this thread.

What wax are you talking about?

You are obsessed by this epoxy coating thing, forget about it as an option with a VE laminate. Any epoxy coating on a VE hull is applied once the hull is finished and out of the mold.

This was brought up before, and you were told not to mix VE and epoxy laminates in that way.
 
I were thinking to just go with a gel coat and VE & [epoxy => edit: fiberglass] and use the female mold for the sake of simplicity.
By the way same sources of informations also advise to cover the last layer of laminate with a gel coat layer with no pigment since such layer is more waterproof than with pigments.
Would you recommend to de: VE & epoxy lamination / gel coat without pigments / gelcoat or paint ?

Wax is easily removed after demoldind.
If painting- then use an epoxy as primer.
Paint AFTER boat is complete. DAYS before launch.

Almost any solvent used by painters will remove wax.
TSP/alcohol/ naptha/acetone
Change rags frequently

PVA is a non wax mold parting agent. Dissolves in water after demolding.
Most builders use pva

Your local auto body/ paint shop is an expert at removing wax prior to painting.

If PE is not waterproof I guess it is porous and that may be the reason wax removal seems to be reputated as a nightmare. According to what you say it is actually very easy to remove wax I have to check that.
 
Any prep work prior to painting includes a step to remove things like wax. Don't over think this part of it. You have far more important aspects of this to concern yourself with. If all the paint fell off in the first week at sea it would have no effect on your safety or your chances of completing the journey.

What sail material are you going to use, and why? What type of floatation are you going to have, do you know how to navigate in the open ocean?

Have you ever been on the ocean for an extended period of time in a small cramped space? Do you know enough first-aid to set a broken limb, or stitch up a severe cut on yourself?

In reality, if and when you ever finish this boat, the ten years between starting the project and launching it will give you plenty of time to take care of some of those things.

By that time your plans will have changed and most choices you've made will be irrelevant and will have been scrapped.

Trying to dewax after an unsuccessful painting is a nightmare. Dewax prior to attempting to paint is easy.

The difference in "waterproofness" between pe ve and epoxy is minimal. The time required for water to penetrate pe is measured in decades per mm. Add another decade for ve or epoxy.

This makes pe more waterproof than cement

You are still obsessed by this.

There is a huge market that makes gel coated parts that are designed to be painted later. Gel coat makes an excellent substrate for other paints and coatings. You aren't trying to reinvent the wheel here, all the info is out there and is easy to find.

And remember, nothing is waterproof, some things are just more water resistant than others.

It appears you have a very difficult time digesting information that is supplied to you, even when it's repeated multiple times in different ways. That may be your biggest hurdle to overcome.
 
Will there be any structural furniture? Where, how many and what are the scantlings of stringers, bulkheads, etc.? You do realize the rig and rigging are designed to the stiffness of the boat which is determined by displacement, VCG and hull shape?
A daysailer with enough ballast in the bilges to self-right with a ton or two of supplies and, what the heck, heavy amateur construction for blue water use is a disastrous SOR.
You don't know what you don't know. Until you start to listen you won't be taken seriously.

If you are serious, which I doubt and why I play with you, I have some steps to follow for a real chance of success. Interested?
