Maybe the locals think you beat the living daylights out of your outboard :D

Did not know that. If there are no local boaters there at all and everyone is transient, explains the difficult market. Who adds an outboard mid-trip?

I think,-- your thinking fishermen on the beach catching small sardines with dirty kids looking for food in the garbage.

There are fishermen on the beach but every one has a long tail deisel, those that have outboards have at least 25hp.

A police boat has just rumbled out of the marina looking some thing like a smaller Atlantic Challenger with twin Arnesons. That was locals!!!

It will be heading out to Malaca straits to do some pirate catching I suppose.

The Ferry has 5x 300 Mercs.

Here locals mostly buy the used outboards not the richer yachters.

Kids get their dads to buy them a cheap outboard (well, richer kids get jet skiis, but dads who want "wholesome" get their kids an aluminum boat and an old outboard, and on lakes where jet skiis are banned which are growing now.)

Or you get weekend boaters who go into the marina to see what they can put on an old boat for not much cash.

I'm thinking if there are no local boaters and all transients where you're at, people tune up and check out their gear before setting off and have the money they don't want an unknown, not much market then where you're at.

Too bad it's not easier to ship an outboard.

Fishermen dont buy used outboards , no one goes out to see at night with used outboards. very nasty and unbelievable quick squalls blow up at anytime of the year ( a nasty one last night at 4.40AM).

When that happens you need to get back in quick.

A yachtie has the time to tinker and can row . Usually just a few hundred yards from the beach to his home on the sea.

Which is what a little Tohatsu 8 is for.
