After seven years of hard labor the Sebastian Marie will be Christened on Saturday the 29th of September. Pardon my ignorance, I'm a new boat builder, this is my first. So I must ask, how does one break a bottle of champagne on the bow without glass going into the river? (Relax, it's a steel hull, it will break.)

Hi Ryland, that could be done by smashing the bottle on land . . .

    Good luck !

The faltering christening made me wonder what happened to the above last one...

Usually the bottle is scored then contained in either a tulle/netting bag, a woven/knotted netting, or a thin pierced silver flask (navy ships or liners). The silver flasks are normally retained by the sponsor.
