the numbers were rhetorical in nature but the concept is there. I'm not so sure either country would be better off pulling any crap on the other.

What Frosty says is true. Look at how America struggles to keep all its citizens happy . The East Coast vs The West Coast...The Midwest and those Southerners. Red States, Blue States...

These are diffferent people, all with different demands and views on how society should function.
Imagine the challenge facing China. I dont believe they can do it...the country is just to big.

I am forced to it in any case:

"I don't drink water. Fish puck in it."

That is China's hope and why China is currently being blessed with prosperity while Europe is having greater difficulty.

Michael, you are unaware of how mobile we are. My wife is from Rhode Island. My mom is from Kentucky. My dad is from Colorado. His dad was born in Philadelphia. I have extended family in Kentucky, Oregon, Oklahoma, Texas, Nevada, Georgia, Colorado, Illinois and Overseas. Miles make smiles. You think we're all that different? You are mistaken. Usted y Yo no somos muy differente, Amigo, en mi opinion.

Mobility is your salvation...When you grow tired of Red State vibes or poor employment prospects you can jip over to a Blue one.
In countries with different languages and cultures its doesnt work. This is the struggle Europe faces. Even in Spain its difficult to move from one region to another because of linguistic barriers.

One of the reasons they should adopt English as the official language in the US is to avoid Balkanization and keep the population mobile.

.Having been historically connected--lived under--family related--often visited--studied --dominated and pressured by this neighbour of ours--I can assure you what seems like constant internal turmile is but a thin coat of pain when challenged. If the U.S. has weaknesses it stems within the members of it's government and buisness not in the general overal hard working citizen. While the present government elected members portray themselves as patriotic and caring I'm afraid like most western countries they are a big dissappointment, more interested in their own welfare to the point where they have lost touch with reality, their responsibility to the country and more important it's citizens. I realize this has always existed within our systems of governments but with modern communications and levels of education amoung the general population one would think this connection "For the good of the people" would have improved not decayed.
As for buisness leaders - their mindset has become so competitive, greedy and of such short term planning that they have become a destroyer not a builder of industry. That old saying " a merchant knows no boundaries" now seems to be their bible. They have no quams in screwing the very people that built their companies in the first place --all to save 5 cents on a $1000 item -- to better the greedy short term thinking year end report. This often achieved by closing totally viable factories. One could understand if it were a mine that ran out of ore but this is ones country and it's people they destroy and they could care less. Both managers, shareholders and to a lesser degree organized labour have a responsibility here in that some patriotic allowance has to be made for the good of the country. (meaning it's people) However don't hold your breath for caring to infringe on greed and the bottom line in the buisness world anytime soon. Too bad as while i am a bit of a tough ***, in my buisness I always shared the profits of good years with my employees as a matter of fact i did it in my construction endevers on a job by job basis. In bigger companies, the key is to include company shares and profit sharing with employees but at the same time don't belittle and insult them by making managers yearly milliomaires. In short the "sleeping Giant" is still the Sleeping Giant" but if U.S. govenment and buisness don't wake up soon it could be a long sleep. So sad to see Kadak die-- it's like a part of my youth gone.

P.S. this last statement includes not just the U.S. but to a great degree all free nations

The comment I've got from US visitors is that there's a huge different between Sweden and the US. In Sweden you can go into any part of any city and make yourself understood in English. Not so in the US.

As I see it the US is not more homogenous than EU, but I don't see why that should lead to armed internal conflicts.

    and those Southerners!
    Michael,
I presume that was sheer admiration referencing us southerners as "those southerners"? :)

As to Florida being Red or Blue, it's purple. Almost exactly 50/50 democrat/republican. Florida is the fourth largest state in the US. Both in square miles and population. By state law, all 14 electoral votes go to the winner. That's why Florida is a hotly contested state in national elections. It's always a close race. :)

I'll give you a summary of my Ph.D. theses.
To all the men is given an universal characteristic: the pursuit of happiness.
From Hitler to the child of two years, from the Pope to the diver, we are all equal: we all live hoping to have happiness.

Filippo Mazzei, a friend of the first 5 U.S. presidents, persuaded Jefferson to introduce the third of the inalienable rights in the declaration : the right to the pursuit of happiness.
    *************
In Italy, around 1900, all the peasants hoped to work in industry for a better life.
1,000,000,000 people in China are hoping to work in industry and only 300,000,000 are already working.
Working for $ 20 per month.

Before seeing a crack in Chinese society, will be at least 10 years.

U.S. and European economy can not withstand 10 years without being captured or destroyed.
    All the rest are words.

But opinions are like balls, each has its own.

Thanks for the information! Nice to know.

As to opinions , In USA we say it a bit different.

Opinions are as common as rectums. And frequently have a similar odor.

Employment is better in the red states than the blue ones, unless you are a government worker.
