    Sam,

Sent you the spreadsheet. Might fall on junk mail as yours did.

I would suggest you use Guillermo's method. He is a lot smarter than my boss.

Is it true that the ratio would be for every barge it's 200 HP?

Have you contacted Jabatan Laut? (i.e.Port Klang) They will have some statements about safety. And perhaps more leads to powering requirements.

Good Morning, the tug horsepower to barge ratio is used to fiqure out which tug is suitable for towing or pushing a certain barge with cargo.

Hyperthetically speaking,-- with no wind and no tide could you push the Queen Mary away from the dock by hand.

    Well?

How true. But this ratio was orignated by Oil Companies for safety purposes, when pushing, or towing alongside. Every Tug and Barge company has one and are all different. What I was trying to relate this to is a tug pushing a loaded scow full of rocks.

    Towing Manual

Google Navy Towing Manual or Army Towing Manual - these are US Gov't manuals that contain a lot of emperical data and a structured approach to the problem. Both are available on the internet.
