    I found Shotover !

Last weekend was a long weekend in Perth so on a whim we decided to drive up to Monkey Mia.
And what should I find but Shotoverer doing sailing excursions to see the Dugongs out on the seagrass beds, at times we were in only 800mm of water so ideal boat really, unfortunately the day glassed out which meant power all the way.
As we had done the day tour the sunset cruise was free, there was about 10-15knts of breeze but the old girl still managed about 8k with 30+ people on board 2/3 of whom were on the bows, the rig is cut down, the sails are heavy duty, there has not been to much crap added, mainly lifelines and seats.
But her work now is noble it was a great experience.

Incidentally at both Denham and Monkey Mia there were no keelboats ! Too Shallow ! I saw various production cruising cats on moorings, a Piver tri and the obligatory Wharram.

Going sailing on Ppalu tomorrow. Boat has been in St Augustine the last few weeks, and is now headed down to her 'northern anchorage' in the Daytona area.

Hoping for good winds for this powerful ketch rig (only ketch rig Spronk built as I understand it).

And I think you are correct Richard, largest and fastest of her time.

    Steve W...yes I did...was in mind, however.

We think the same things in different places together...and we have most of our leaves still on trees...today is a rake-day for me...in the rain.

Speaking of histoy, I was going through some old mags when I was reminded of a designer called Albert Sedlmeyer who had a trimaran design I think called Saracen. Turned my head at the time and I've never seen anything from him since.
Anybody have more info ? Just curious.

Saracen may have been Lex Nicol

Per chance is the design you are looking at in your magazine, for Albert, the sailing cat with the forward Cockpit/steering station , a little futureistic for its day, that was in Port Stephens , last time I saw it, a fair while back?

You may well be right about the Nicol, rings a bell. I didn't find the design in the issues I had, old Aussie multihull I think. But I'm positive it was a 33' ish trimaran.
I initially thought he was a Kiwi, maybe he moved to Aussie ?
I suppose I could email them and satisfy my curiosity !

I remember. The perfect small self-contained spot...need more cash and a way to moor in SF or Gulf city. Never have to worry about rising water, just the pumper schedules...quite the rig, sail or not.

Saracen was a Lex Nicol design it won the Brisbane to Gladstone race on handicap one year, last I heard it was in the Gippsland Lakes.
