    Gary,

In my insular way I assumed you were talking about a forum or something when you said "on the Waitemata". Luckily Google search let me see the error of my ignorance.

Would you have a link to the Video?

Here's a print from the Vaughan/Conner 1988 book; fairing the then, world's largest wing for Stars & Stripes.

A screengrab from Bing Maps showing the Lorient Submarine Base with Banque Populaire V. An ORMA60 Foncia perhaps? An older ORMA could be Lakota or one of it's generation? Groupama3. The maxi cat is the updated ENZA(ok it's not ENZA I seem to remember something about this cat being refitted from a race boat to cruiser anyone know more details?) not sure about that one as it has gone through many changes and capsized recently. I think campaigned by Tony Bullimore in later years? The final photo is of Banque Populaire IV which is now smashing records in Australia as KAS/Team Australia.

Not Enza which was here in Auckland on the hard a while ago; she has a wing mast and this cat's rig is fixed. Also looks like a large central cabin. Also pink colour. But I'm no help because can't place it. Maybe a Joubert.

Enza was in Brest [just along the coast from Lorient] a year ago [7/1/12] when Bank Pop came in from the Jules Verne record run.
She was rig-less and looking very sorry for herself.
Surprised if she made it to NZ that quick.

Enza was on the hard at Westhaven, wing mast beside (I tried lifting one end, failed of course, thought it a pretty agricultural cross section shape) ... for some months after Bullimore came in with his headsail stuck aloft and in tatters - but that was longer ago than I thought - getting old, time flies etc.

Why in the world does Paragon have a 7' draft with the board down?

I'd guess the 7' draft is related to the fixed rudder rather than hull rocker. The article reads as 7' with board up 12' with board down that sounds about right for a high aspect fixed rudder. My KH F40 has a similar arrangement as standard but we are going to make it so it can be lifted for beaching.

Here is an early shot of Thompson's Paragon, also one of Kelsall's renamed VSD, Transat en Double winner, beating the original foiler Paul Ricard.

A photo from John Cadwallader of the Malcolm Tennant designed trimaran Wild Thing dried out for a bottom scrub. This was an interesting an innovative boat apparently the first to use composite strip plank construction. It also made extensive use of paper honeycomb as a core. The floats are mounted well forward to provide additional diagonal stability when pressed. It sails around the Whitsundays these days.
