Recommendations for the source books that you wish to access may depend on your familiarity with design concepts and level of education. A book at the basic end is The Nature of Boats by Dave Gerr . Another book that is definitely high tech is Hydrodynamics Of High Speed Marine Vehicles By Odd M. Faltinsen. That book is quite technical and loaded with high end math. It may be just what you want.

I'd recommend "Performance by Design" by Donald Blount.
