So on the "Dragon plate" Doug, I have some questions:

    1) why not mold a full CF radiobox out of a single piece of CF twill vacuum bagged around a male mold like foam or Balsa

    2) what purpose other than looks does the dragonplate serve since it is being glued on and hence offers no waterproofing (edges open) and its structural contributions are limited by the glue bond

The draft, in the course of the development, has been increased to 1.9m(6.29') to enhance the performance of the boat in waves-at least as a test for the model.(About the same proportion as a Moth. As stated many times in the course of the thread the foils are to be retractable on the full size boat and left in place-similar to the Rave, Osprey, and some other foilers. Removing them is not in the cards for this type of foiler. The boat will use a rather simple dolly on the main hull to go from the trailer to the water, or just slide off the trailer.
    -----
The lower pictures show the Osprey and the aeroSKIFF both of which use retractable foil systems. These boats as well as the new boat(fullsize) will be able to beach launch and sail out to deeper water.

    1) too much work,
    2) dragon plate"epoxy glued" to balsa is ,for all practical purposes, the same as laminating carbon fabric to the balsa except that the finish work is already done. As with any balsa cored laminate, the edges will be sealed.

A--Originally, the radio box was going to have:
    1) the sailwinch(RMG-the big one),
    2) the rudder servo
    3) port and stb ama servo cutouts for later. Change: if these are installed they will be installed at the ama with the wire run into the box on each side.
    4) a servo cutout for the main foil pushrod control down the line to allow "manual" altitude control via the servo controlled pushrod. Change: when this is done the servo will be installed at the point of the aft, center recess in the deck and the wire run aft to the box.
    5) a servo used for fine jib adjustment. Change: eliminated.
    6) receiver, switch and battery--no change.
    =================
B---One change being considered is to forget the reefing of the main for the time being. Reefing will still be accomplished by changing the Code Zero to a jib, and then removing the jib. The reefing system for the main is more complicated with the wing mast and not worth the hassle now-or maybe ever.
My production models all allowed the main to be reefed by rolling up the bottom panel and taking a section out of the round mast. On this boat, it will probably be better to do like most rc models do and have a separate rig for heavy air. On this boat that will be a shorter mast with a shorter main. More expensive but better.

unless you bog the balsa before you laminate the dragon plate to it, its not nearly the same as laying CF on the balsa itself. seems to me its a lot more work to do that AND get it all waterproof than it would be to

    a) get a cheap plastic box of about the right size (Tupperware is particularly good for this)
    b) spray it with McLube
    c) wetout a sheet of CF of CF-Hybrid twill
    d) stick that inside the box nicely so the corners are tucked
    e) put a balloon into the box
    f) put the cover on
    g) inflate the balloon
    H let dry overnight

    voila - a waterproof box

Thanks, but I'm very satisfied with my system.

So how are you waterproofing it?

Second question - if you already have a balsa box, why the Dragon plate? Is it just for looks?

So Doug, am I missing something or is this just a reposting of your status of about a month ago? When can we see some new photos of your boat? Like the dragonplated balsa box for the radio?

Its much more interesting to hear how you plan to waterproof that box since you will have cut edges of the Dragon plate to deal with.
