I know Ranger Tugs have a Davit for their outboard tugs. Looks kind of flimsy. I'm just looking for a better idea. Anybody have any input?

What type of tender, size of motor and weight of the combination? And what make does the Ranger come with?

Also do you intend to fish with the tender on the Davit?

Don't have a Ranger Tug, not looking to fish from tender, inflatable with a 5hp motor. Have a 30' Downeast style boat with an outboard. Would be nice to be able to bring along my dinghy when I travel with the boat. The only davit for outboards I've found is what Ranger Tugs have come up with. I'm in the final stages of my boat build and as soon as the weather cooperates I will paint the boat and hopefully the boat will be in the water this season.

I meant fishing from the boat with the tender located above the motor
We have had a manual Seawise and Weavers, both restricted the view when fishing or all round cruising.Since those early days we stored our tender on the roof. When the tender was small,
we just hand bombed it up, (we had a stand off the swim grid to hold the 4hp motor) If the tender was larger, we used a roof mounted davit, swing type.
Lots of those around. Wrt the motor, we always used a motor that had it fuel tank integrated with the motor itself so we did not have to deal with a red portable fuel tank either on the floor
of the tender, (limited floor space) or storing it on the larger boat when underway.

If you want the dinghy above the outboard you need a way for the davits to extend beyond the motor in order to pick it up. Ergo, either the davit upper arms telescope or a bar/frame swings down. Both systems work, you dimension them so they are not "flimsy" for the expected loads.

I tried to build a set of composite dinghy Davits from Coosa board and fiberglass (FAIL). Then ultimately found a pair of vintage Bremer aluminum davits and installed those. I have whole series in a playlist called “Dinghy and Dinghy Davits” on my YouTube channel
