Certainly a landmark occasion for the Yanks and flow on to the rest of the world. They're choosing wisely me thinks.

Still a little ironic/sad though, that whilst probably most of the world was watching/discussing what happened there that your average yank barely knows about the world outside his own borders.

Well, maybe so. Thank you all for your good wishes and kind thoughts (and having kept them for us for the past lord knows how long). We are no more perfect than any other assembly of mere mortals with feet of clay, but I think we've always thought of ourselves as willing to try harder... rightly or wrongly.

In any event, what President-Elect Obama said last night is very true: This is only the chance to create change. there is still an awful lot of work to be done.

now, you mob are a reasonable lot (even Mr Herron when he's not too drunk LOL): What can we do to be helpful to to the rest of the world? And what unswept corners of our house do you notice?

How can we do better than we have?

With the greatest of respect Mr Eponodyne, if you have to ask us where the US has gone wrong and what needs to be addressed then clearly you have had your head in the sand for the last 8 years. Your best allies as well as the non-aligned have been ringing it out for years and you havent heard (or you havent listened?).

    Anyway.... fingers cross for Obamaman.

I'm joining the congratulatons to US voters for the wise choice! :D
For too many years I was watching the US from outside, thinking about how lucky I was to live in Europe.
Now I think you have a chance to change that completely. Wish we had a guy like Obama here in Italy.

    Mychael,
This Yank has been all over the world over and over. It's nice to get away once in awhile, but it is really, really nice to return home. Whether led by a socialist like Bush and Obama or a capitalist like Reagan, America is the example for the rest of you to follow and admire.

While I was pleased for the American people in their choice, I also felt that a good man had lost, John McCain came across as a thoroughly good man in his losers speech.

There's hope for this crazy world yet.

in only some ways, you really are not at all free, when your leaders have to speak behind glass, De Gaulle, although had many attempts on his life, refused to be closeted . Obama, iss a brave and marked man, perhaps towards the ends of his first office tenure he will try one again to regulate the crazies, the gun lobby, until you get rid of weapons which are not at all needed in modern society you are always going to live with the threat of assasination and murder
So I know where I would rather live

After the past two elections got stolen and a fraud has been allowed to wrongfully occupy the Whitehouse, it is nice to see democracy return to the USA after a eight year hiatus.

    Thank you my fellow Americans.

The 20 years worth of damage done in the past eight years may never be repaired. The smash and grab vandals reign is over, may our lesson be learned by future generations.

    Hi Eponodyne

Man, am I glad you asked :D You can come help me finish my boat :D That would really be helpfull.

I've always had good experiences with the US guys for the most part, I hope your stuff works out. Come visit us again with your nuclear boat ;) we'll just have to educate the idiots here a bit :D

If you chose this man for his color, you made a bad choice. If you chose him because he's the best man, you've made the right choice.

Next time get a president that's into boating, ok ? :D

Obama is going to be seriously compromised by the global situation. This man, in fact no man, can live up to the expectations that have been generated given what he is going to have to work with. Its a close to impossible challenge to come up roses here even if the best course is plotted.
