Container boat

There are some boats designed specifically to fit a container. What would your idea be for a design where the hull is the container itself?

Maybe a bolt on bow that fits inside.

 

I am thinking of something the same size and with the same locks as a standard container. Maybe it can unfold into a catamaran.

That would defeat the purpose of being able to ship the whole boat in one package. I think something like a folding catamaran is possible.

 

While your at it, make it self-trailering, with retractable road wheels,

otherwise I'd think you loose a lot of the practically of it transforming into standard container, as I don't think you are going to find a trailer or crane to launch it outside of big-time professional boat yards.

How about a 40' box with 19' bow and stern sections that nest and fold out to create stream-lined bow and stern. I'm thinking amphibious calm water 'passage maker'.....58' x 8'.


My "modular container-able cat" has a displacement of over 11,000lbs with water line about 1/2 way up the hulls, and the tare on 40' container is just under 8,000lbs, so it is almost possible to carry its own container on deck.

The top of the container can have three parts. The center is the coach roof. Both ends fold out to form a bow and stern.

It's not at all what I am talking about. This is about something that folds into a standard container.

 

you could give it retractable arms and legs so it could fight evil robots from other planets.

 

Containers have the reinforcement on the outside to have a smooth interior. If it was designed as a boat, the framing would go on the inside and that would give a smooth skin. Rectangular sections are good for initial stability. A hinge for the end sections can be welded in. The hinged sections would lock on the standard corner locks for containers.

That could work. Two inflatable sections with some kind of attachment. I like it.
