    check the transom, starboard side and see if there is a HIN

    I'd say if the engine is original to the boat, it is somewhat earlier than the 2000's, more the 1980's somewhere.

    OK, they have gone to what looks like a mid-80's Johnno, you can easily check that by googling "Johnson outboard decals". Those old girls were as thirsty as all heck !
