Folks due to my past work commitments I was never able to put my dream of building a wooden/plywood boat into motion. Now that I am finally retired and having some free time in hand, I would like to put that dream into motion.

I need suggestions for a boat hull/plans that I can install a 250hp Mercury OB that I have lying around in my garage....acquired some time back.

    A boat design requirements:

    1. Deep Vee less than 20ft.
    2. Plywood construction
    3. Seats 4 to 6max

Any plans that fit the above? Yes I have built a few small hydroplanes before and confident I can manage this dream project.

Thank you, I must have missed this plan in my search and Mangusta looks good for my needs, has a nice high freeboard and the construction method is something new for me to explore...your suggestion is much appreciated

Honestly I am looking for something fast stable and fun to build. If there is a some wooden classic elements in the build that would be great too

Ditto that. I doubt very much that you would find a mono-hull under 20 feet that would be rated for a 250 outboard. Something a little over 20 feet would, or a multihull (Catamaran).

So true, the 250hp came off my STV and it is a all day 90mph boat :)
Wonder what speed I would get for the Mangusta......

And a video. This links to a bunch of vids; even some rough water ones. Enjoy

You got me excited ... that is plenty knots for my needs.
I do have a couple of custom props in my inventory from my past life for my motor at higher WOT speed
Do you think i have to reinforce the seams for the power even though the plan is rated for 250hp at 50mph?
While I like the hull shape, I might want to raise the side coaming and wind deflector or add a wind shield above the stock wind deflector to keep the "hair-do" in order :)

Just pull the trigger to grab a set of the Mangusta plans to study.....
Yes there are a bunch of debates in the forum on the lifting stakes and reverse chines. Going to be an interesting project since I will be a newbie to the stitch N glue construction.

The only downside to the boat is the designer got an infection and passed away this year.

The Aussie builder I linked is a big fan of the design. Join the linked forum and ask questions there about mods. Things like modifying the sheer are done all the time.

Thanks and I will. There isn't much build log of this boat too and maybe I will start one when I get going.

I meant what designs do you like, lol.

Finding a proven design that does what you want (meets your needs, SOR) and sticking to that plan is key.
The more one deviates from a proven plan the less likely success with the outcome.

Stitch and glue is an excellent way to go: fast, light, strong.

Please start a build thread once you decide which plan.

    Good luck.

No, not if it's a good design,
and if you stick to the design.

Have you checked out builds and common complaints from owners?
Are builders happy with their outcome?
No design is perfect but can you live with those complaints?
