In doing all this testing on Dynex I have come up with an idea for a direct reading digital tension gauge. Built a prototype using the guts of a digital fishing scale and it works pretty well. Accurate to about 5% at 5,000 lb and a lot easier to use than a Loos is on wire. No calibration tables required for different size ropes from 3/16" to 3/4". Using better parts I think I can get the range up to 10,000 lb and accuracy to better than 2%.

Would there be a market for such a thing? Besides tuning synthetic standing rigging it might be useful to know how much load is on a halyard or sheet. I figure it could sell for under $250.
