    I fully agree. I consider that to be the more or less the perfect power loading for my Willard after much experience with it. Eight tons X 4 = 32hp. I have 37hp and could do w a bit less. TAD's Yellow Cedar is optimized for low drag and hence gets by w less power per ton and of course something resembling a powered barge or a tug should require more but 4hp per ton just about covers the average full displacement boat. If your'e saying basically the whole question is as simple as "tons X 4" ... I basically agree.

    Yes. Well said. The idea of cruising at "hull speed" is fine for semi-disp boats like a GB but full disp boats should cruise well below.
