    Hi Everyone.

I recently bought a little project boat for my son to do some bass fishing.
So the plan is it put in a deck so that he can stand and fish.
Problem is the “nose” is solid. Can I cut that off so that I can extend the deck into the nose?

    Welcome to the Forum Lionel.

Here is a slightly larger version of your photograph - re your 'solid nose', this foredeck is contributing useful strength to the boat.
If you cut it out, you might have to add some extra stiffening, depending on what is already there.
Is there currently a transverse bulkhead at the aft end of the nose?
Can you take a photo of the interior with the canvas cover removed please?

Thank you so much for the reply. I’m collecting the boat tomorrow and so can take additional images but this is what I have currently

You can do that, but you need to maintain the gunwhales, and you probably ought to make the casting deck all one piece to the hulls from side to side.

The gunwhales make the hull stiff. If you install a cut down deck, bonding the deck to the hullsides makes the boat much more like the original.

You can also build a flat casting deck on top of the existing deck, but will look wonky if real big.

If you cut out the existing deck and replace it with a flat deck of same dimensions, it should be ok.
The new deck must be fastened securely to the hull, it plays a major role in strength of the bow.
