Thanks Corley, I was looking for this video.

Ushant (Ouessant in French) is a island at 20 km from Brittany, it's nickname is " terror island" because of the fog (one day on four), the "boiling" sea, the tides (about 7 to 9 meters) and the Fromveur passage (between the island and the land) where currants can reach 9 knots. When the tide is against the wind you may have waves from 10 to 14 meters.
It's the best place in the Iroise sea for trying the boats, we used to push the new warships full speed and break everything that has to break; after that the ships could be "certified" all weather...Our best was a PSV (patrol boat) of 52 meters, 450 tons full loaded, able to go "smooth and easy" at 17 knots true speed full power against a currant tide of 7 knots, combined with a 30-40 feet sea and 55 knots of wind.
A good training on sail boats in the Fromveur and you'll find later that the screaming sixties are easy, compared to this cauldron.
The video was made in 2002 outside Ouessant in the Atlantic. The tris behave remarkably well in such a sea; the wind is not so strong, the mainsails are high on the masts. The tide is in the direction of the wind.
I admire the fishermen of Sein island who fish the bass fish everyday being alone on 24-26 feet boats in these waters.

You're welcome Doug, it was nice to see such a good video/short documentary on the race.
