Anyone knows how much one of these things weighed? Listed on the build plans as 29hp. Thanks

Should be about the same as a Continental Y-112 L head. Add in the marinization goodies. The Connie is listed as 290 lbs bare engine.

"Gray Marine 4-112. This engine can be identified by the Y112 casting id on the head. It is based on a Continental Y112 "

Thanks Phil. I did read it was a "commercial block". What would have been the marinization, just a salt pump and heat exchanger? Maybe an extra 20lbs give or take?

Im guessing exhaust is mostly same weight. That being said, modern diesel is around 100lbs lighter , that does give extra fuel capacity for the same waterline of around 14 gallons, which for a slow speed boat diesel is a day and a half of motoring on top of the original drawn tankage. When you are paying $6.50 a gallon, it all adds up.

Book weights, both engines are listed as 122cu.in. but I can't guarantee it's the same block. Grey delivered both raw and fresh water cooling, with plate, tube and keel heat exchangers.
    Four-122 (31hp@2200rpm): with reduction drive: 425lbs (192.7kg)
    Four-22 (two ratings, Lugger 29hp@2000rom and Express 45hp@3000rpm): direct drive 410lbs (186kg), reduction drive 440lbs (199.5kg).

Modern diesel weights for the over one liter class:
Yanmar 3YM30AE: dry weight without gearbox: 280lbs (127kg)
    Beta 30: 306.5lbs (139kg)
Volvo D1-27: dry weight with gearbox: 308.6lbs (140kg)

The under one liter versions come in at 249lbs (113kg) dry without gearbox, you loose a few hp.

Thanks Rumars. Those figures actually suggest my weight saving is in order of 150lb, say an extra 21 gall of fuel for the same bottom loading, given an 800cc Yanmar twin.
The numbers provided have answered my query, thanks all.
