I've been thinking for some time, why not take a boat like a Jarcat or Chat 18 and stretch the cockpit? Add a low aspect ratio rig and you get a large trailerable daysailer that is easy to set up and can carry tons of people. Well, maybe not tons, but a lot. Stability would be very good for an unballasted, non-folding boat. Performance wouldn't be amazing, but probably not bad either.

The boat in the drawing (Woods' Chat 18) was stretched about 6ft longitudinally, for a total of 24x8 ft with a 12ft cockpit. Note I am not talking about the practical issues of stretching an existing design, just the concept. Also I am not talking about actually building this, it's just an idea I can't get out of my head.

So is this a dumb idea or what?

Thanks oldmulti. That's quite the shameless Gougeon 32 knock off. Interesting that he has platforms for hiking out....

I'll admit I'm pretty suspicious of Kohler, although I don't really have a good reason to be. Still, I'm not sure that Kohler doing something validates an idea?

I'm not going to disagree here. But maybe it's just that we expect the proportions to be a certain way?? And when they're not it's strange?

Silly isnt it. I love the dog version, the boat version: not so much. No offense meant to boat, dog, or yourself
