    Simple rule,

Going faster costs more than going slow!

I understand your data ... and you backed it up with sources ... I was referring to Alder's data ... and the "form of your reply" kinda knee jerk response ... all is well ... hoping Alder chimes in with the source(s) used for his graph

I would hesitate to call Daiquiri's response as a "knee jerk"

I personally appreciate his fast, fact based analysis in an effort to repudiate the kind of irrational assertations that plague the public forum of the web in general, and occasionally in this site.

Both Daiquiri and I spotted the 'bogus theorem', based on experience within this forum over the years. We will never see Alders data. It was pushing a philosophical barrow not based on fact.

I wonder if that is always the case. Take a Hydrofoil Ferry that chews up juice at normal speed, but can deliver twice the passengers (doubling its income) in the same time when going fast enough to 'foil' ?

Or even more basic - why are nearly all commercial ships fuel burning and not sail ?

Great post! Thanks to Daiquiri for being alert as well as for clear language backed up by documented facts!
