Don't get on 'em about taking a tangent, Frosty. There's only one person here qualified to opine about economics, anyway. I'm usually off doing something else, yet come back and more stuff is posted!
Cutting Al is very easy on a blade if waxed. Short of ash/nails, I believe that it is the heat that smokes the blades when cutting wood, especially with too fine of teeth that wont clear well (more than three teeth per inch for most cuts). Boston obviously knows more about bandsaws than I - just reminding of the ash... apparently not a problem there. The hillbilly woods must be challenge enough, then somebody sneaks in and whacks a piece of FRP with the wood blade...Of course, one needs different bandsaws in different parts of the shop - they mix like oil and water, like non-Boston Americans and Europeans (smack talkin', complexed elitist socialists, in general). It was definately better (pre-internet) when all we had to do was come in and save them once in a while...

not sure what that was all about
I never even heard of someone favoring regular steel bits and blades over carbide
might have just been having a bad night or something or maybe I completely misunderstood him

I never tried a horizontal band saw but I sure spend plenty of time on a vertical saw
cant be that much different at least in blades available
you can get em from about 3/8 to 1 1/2 or something like that and they go through wood like butter

    hey Bntii how you doing
if you want a carbide band saw blade they are out there
pretty sure the one I have is a Simonds but its been a while since I got it
I just looked em up and they will weld to length for whatever you need
Im pretty sure you can fit one of there blades on anything
the label is worn of mine but Im pretty sure its the Simonds CTI type

    economics is interesting these days
the old S&P is pushing that two month low again and I just got in at basically yesterdays low with SSO funds again

    hyperinflation is a real risk
in order to get money flowing again these gov fools who created the mess in the first place have taken all the stops off of inflation and as Mas pointed out flooded the market with dollars
while having little ability to then remove those dollars from circulation once money does start moving
assuming the banks quit hording cash at some point
    thing is
once the solvent banks are allowed to pay back the money they didnt want in the first place whats going to keep the excuse of a level playing field alive then
with some banks still under special regulation and the solvent banks not
what keeps the insolvent going in an unbiased market
    nothing
what would should have been allowed to fail in the first place is once again at risk of failing
if you let the healthy banks pay back the money they owe
    if you dont
is there any chance the insolvent will suddenly become able to compete
and how do you accept the payoff if all the banks are not able to pay at the same time
seems to me like it was never going to work
    and
it makes that bugaboo of hyperinflation harder to combat

This is quite plausible as no one outside USA, seems to desire further risky exposure to the US$ - USA, you allowed this, your bed to be made, now lie in it.... http://financialsense.com/fsu/editorials/dorsch/2009/0707.html

well I sure got out of the market at the right time today eh folks
check the time of my previous post against the turn around in the S&P today
    specially since I went long
broke the two month low and then some, all the way back to the end of April
my market strategy today was to bug out early after a small gain thinking that the markets are not showing me anything all that glaringly obvious

is a testimony to conservative trading that I came out a little over 1% ahead today on a day were I went long and the market ended up what, nearly 2% down
and that on a day were it started out on a two month low in a supposedly improving economy
    fat chance

    ok Obummer
how many magic bullets you got left

my previous guess that the markets would waffle around between 886 and what did I say 926 for a while
    was all wrong

tomorrow will be a eye opener
now for a read of Frosties local paper
    should be interesting

if anyone didnt get a chance
make some time and read Mas's article on the dollar and gravity posted above
    its great

    ok
    now for the local news

Maybe America has censored outside information,--like China.

    Hey Boston-

Have gone to the dark place- trying to leave on the sailboat in a couple of days and the crap on the 'must get done' list is not getting done.. Got the fridge compressor limping along- company says "run it- you can't hurt it".. well I think it overheated.. crap. Hoping to get the tech out there tomorrow.

Good to hear you have a job going. I am still not getting anything- one guy said he would see who was "hungry enough" to get the work. I added 10k to the bid for that one.... I didn't get the job.

Boston, I had no problem with Frostys link, when he posted and this morning - Maybe USA has "banned it as subversive and cut access?" - :D:D:D - - - How did you go with the news sites I posted?

bn Ild have done the same thing and then told him I was backed up just to see how hungry he might be for decent work

ya the Job is a godsend
the folks are great and the Mrs is fond of working through several designs to see which one "feels right"
I been making more on design for this job than on any other
    great people
the latest is a new roof with solar
and a planter that is a cross between a Frank Loyd Wright and Tim Burton design
Im all kinds of thrilled to have em on board

    in terms of Jobs
hang in there you will get something soon
and keep an eye on that gen set
I dont trust anything that people claim you cant break
generally means that although you cant break it
    it might break you
so keep a wary eye on it and have a back up
if its not running right, dont run it
seems like a recipe for disaster

    Frosty
Ill try the link again as Im dam curious to read the Bankok news
if not Ill find it one way or another
sometimes links that work in one country dont work in another
ask Mas about some of the flickers Ive posted

    where's Woosh
he seemed to be on me for a minute there and now disappeared
I just greatly prefer carbide wasnt actually pissed off or anything
always seems to make a better cut
although I have a pile of titanium drill bits of every flavor that hold there heads up pretty well
maybe he was talking about cutting steal and not cutting with steel
    not sure
but cutting anything with the hardest whatever you can find is generally a better plan than with softer cutting tools
my two cents but never heard it argued before
    ah well
    Germans eh
    har har har

    oh
Mas your news links always work fine
not sure what the deal is with the Bankok news
    Ill keep trying
I think it will add excellent perspective to what I read round hear
kinda like my affinity for the London financial times or the BBC
