"We worry about you lot" Thank-you. I am in the tourism business and reservations are off some twenty percent. This twenty percent...as I see it; Many Japanese tourists until their recession and they havn't been back.
Europeans more than filled the void, especially Switzerland and Germany.
A few years ago I happened to get in with a bunch of Scots presenting six percent of my business in '07 and '08. Since I met my present wife in... I better get this right... 2000, about four percent Mexican (she's Mex). Quite a few Kiwis, few Ozzies, a group of Somalies every year and Hawaiians, "the new Japanese" - fun loving, always bearing gifts, respectful, empathetic towards others, wonderful.
Then disaster hit. The Europeans were no longer allowed to take back large amounts of fish and they abruptly stopped coming in 2009. For twenty years, my friend Cristian, with a campground on the Bodensee, and a travel agent acquaintance were sending large numbers of Germans and Swiss. It was not uncommon for Europeans to head back over with 500 kilos, or more, of salmon and halibut. It was sometimes then sold to pay for their trip. I think they are limited to 25 kilos or such now and it is not such a good deal anymore. I will be twenty percent down from average again this year - certainly not going to make up for it with Americans - they are all (the smart ones) pinching their pennies until the Robin Hoods are out of the government. What does it mean to me? Well, I'm not even thinking of selling a property in this business climate, I am setting up my boat to commercial fish for cod in April and May (the ex-vessel price will be in the neighborhood of $.60 lb.), I am eating more wild game and fish (good for my health anyway), building a greenhouse and getting a start on spring with the veggies, completing tests on an invention, negotiating manufacture of another invention in Mexico, doing a few boat related jobs for poker/diaper money, and not going on vacations. I'll be fine. In all, Alaska is so natural-resourse rich that we'll do well as long as the environmentalists don't get it ALL shut down. We've got a democrat senator now (Mark Begich) and while mayor he bankrupted Anchorage, now setting his sights on America. He'll be a "one-termer". A lot of hippies here, feeding off of the system, they'll probably leave when the funds stop rolling in.
In Mexico City, where I usually winter (my wife is there now), it is worse. Tho the standard of living was never, on average, high, inflation is rearing it's ugly head. I can now buy Florida oranges cheaper in Alaska than I can buy Mexican juice oranges in Mexico City. Entertainment was always pricey there but now the average citizen is getting hit pretty hard. We try to compensate by giving jobs to any who look like they need it in our area. We are pretty lucky there, as my wife's family is wealthy. My family in Seattle area is hunkering down, getting houses paid for, etc., readying for any worsening in economy. Property values are starting to come down in Texas and we are shopping there for retirement property.
In all, everyone is on the edge of their seats here, waiting for word from the experts in Queensland, Puerto Rico, and Chile (edit, "and NY").
Talking to clients from around the country (and world), it is off everywhere.

Mark the revolutionary ... I never would have guessed. Yeah, you have a good idea up there, get off this thread and use your time wisely to support your family by getting another job. Nothing too complicated, don't hurt yourself, pump gas or something ... shovel snow, you know ... monkey work.

MARK, - - Thanks for the information - - Keep well and good wishes please keep that sort of info coming as nervousness is showing in the markets everywhere lately...
Looks like gold is headed for a test of 1000, and I would like to see the AU$ at .6000 - long way to go as .89 and falling on a rising US$ - - Things look headed for a big shakeout - - very bumpy ride ahead - the next week or so may be sentiment driven and assisted by heavy FED manipulation...

Someone is going, - - "ahh, aahhhh, AHhhh, AAAHHHH" - - and if that someone is "economic USA", then the usual for Australia is that we catch a bad case of economic H1N1 type flu....

Oh ... you are not sleeping yet, how nice. North Korea has some cheap properties, you might want to save your pennies and retire there. Last time I put 25 rounds from .300 magnum at 100 yards in one hole, that means shot in your eyeball every time. Go look in the mirror, u c that windpipe couple of inches under you chin, touch it and tell me just much pressure would it take to crush it. Then thank God you are sitting behind a keyboard. Although, I prefer you ffff off before, ffff u sounds so .... impersonal. Yes, I did go back to read posts from first one. It seems that you and Zed have been complete a..holes for a while, way before I came along. I have arsenal in my home, over 1000 rounds of ammo, and when people ask y, I say just in case Mexicans invade. Usually it's a joke, but in your case I will make an exception. You speak pretty good english for a Mexican. All the financial expertise that you have and you are in a tourist business in middle of a ffffing nowhere? You know, u can always ffff off and never come back here, your problems will b finished. Oh ... right ... u want your voice to be heard. Tell me, how the hell did you and Zed manage to piss off so many people? Not me, I'm never pissed off, cause I eat lead for breakfast (according to u). But seriously, why don't u just go do your whatever business instead of posting BS all day. There's one more thing. What is this thing between you and masrapido? Some latino thing? I never c Dominicans b bffs (best friends forever) with Puerto Ricans in NY, but such animosity ... it even makes me shiver. Well ... not really, I can't back that up. According to you, when I meet polar bear, the bear shivers. You may go sleep now, think about what I said ... if you can manage a rational thought.

I had no idea my d.ck was of so much interest to you. Well, we're all entitled to a little fun, no? I mean, are u suggesting censorship? Others can say what they like, and I can't? Don't take this the wrong way, because you started this thread and your articles can b informative, but ... I like it better when you make some original thought. Mark is kind of right about you in terms of posting links.

We can c what you made of ... you can give me your email and I can send you some photos that were removed from this site, me in airborne, things we do to people in dojo 3 hours a day. This way you get some idea what you gonna b dealing with. Mexican egos, I swear the God, I never met more macho wanna b sh..heads with so little actual capability. Don't worry, nobody threatened you. You are safe in your Alaska.

Yeah, Zed, I did go back to read all the post from beginning, turns out you have been an a..hole for a while, most people seems to hate u. I still haven't seen one good, original post from you. Couple of pages back you talked about commercial paper losing all value? That already happened in USSR in 1991 and in other countries as well. Nothing original there, just like all your other posts. It's obvious you just come here to play and b a dumb a.. and to annoy people like a mosquito. I have to be honest with you, I have absolutely not reaction towards you. I mean, you are here or not here ... it's all the same to me. You are just so unbelievably boring. But ... even though your knowlege of finance and economy is a joke as is your contribution to this forum ... you do seem to have some kind of educational background and I was a little curious what it was. Of course, it goes without saying, that anybody working for a dot.com is a complete idiot. I mean, these guys thought they gonna rule the virtual world, wall street played them, then most of them ended up broke and unemployed. It's pathetic. Too bad retail investors lost all their cash. And there is some speculation that Zed and Mark are actually one same person with a multiple personality disorder. I'm sort of curious that also.
