I saw that Gitana 18 has now been revealed and the immersed appendages look interesting.Revealed Gitana 18, the new Maxi Edmond de Rothschild https://www.sailweb.co.uk/2025/12/04/revealed-gitana-18-the-new-maxi-edmond-de-rothschild/

I'm not particularly surprised by the AC type main foils as they will be hoping to operate the boat in the same sort of speed range. The rudders I find particularly interesting and I'm not sure if their design has more to do with stabilising the tip foils or ensuring reliable steering as the boat sails at optimum flight level.I suppose it could be both.I did contemplate posting this in the multihull section, but on reflection, decided that the platform that the foils were attached to was less significant than the propulsion system and the lifting surfaces.

Since watching this video a couple of hours ago I have no doubt about the rudders any longer, they are acknowledged as being linked to assist structurally.the video justifies twenty minutes of anybody's time if they are interested in sophisticated boatbuilding.Enormous autoclaves and embedded optical fibres for readouts of loadings among other things.

They wanted the rudders deeper while avoiding too much flexibility which degrades the steering control, so they adopt this biplan box configuration which increases a lot the frequency of the first natural mode of vibration.
