IMG_1501.jpeg IMG_1500.jpeg I'm having a hard time getting past the reference to John Wayne.

After he died, the famous Wild Goose was refit for tours and is not seaworthy to leave Newport Harbor with pax as they raised her vcg by adding a deck for drinks and people.

I was fortunate to go on it once.

Wild Goose Vessel in Newport Beach | City Cruises https://www.cityexperiences.com/newport-beach/city-cruises/our-fleet/wild-goose/
they quote a maximum passenger capacity of 127 - I am sure that the standards for pax vessels are MUCH stricter in California than here, as if she was to operate here, the operators would be thinking that she could easily carry 250 punters...... just as well that she (or any similar vessel) is not operating here.

Oh wait - we did have an old wooden boat here for many years called Jolly Roger doing booze cruises along the coast (she is a 'converted' inter-island cargo schooner) - she used to be notorious for loading pax on board like sardines in a can (I refused point blank to have anything to do with her re surveys and passenger capacity, but a friend of mine happily did so).
She is in very poor condition now, and has been sitting on a mooring in Carlisle Bay for the last few years - I am amazed that she has not sunk yet - but I did hear recently that she had been 'sold' to somebody who plans to drag her ashore, and have a land based Jolly Roger bar and restaurant ..... :)
Re the photo below, she is even more hogged now (I took this photo 8 years ago) - some years previously her owners decided to sheath the whole hull in fibreglass (hence the 'ripples'....) and I think it is all rotting away happily underneath the fibreglass now.....

    Andre,

    Keep the diesel.
    Embrace it.
