    Hey there guys

can some one give me the scoop on patch aids.
I am looking for the best product to speed up small gelcoat repairs.

I have to color match some white and offwhite's (not brand new boats)
so if the color changes or is just plain wrong when it kicks, I would like to be able to speed up the process and get it right.

If you could recommend a brand name and supplier of a patch aid
and if you could comment on the compatibility with Duratec High Gloss.

    Thanks Mark

I know you're trying to match an aged color, which is difficult to do, but anything you add to gel coat will change the color, that includes patchaid and the high gloss additive, so you're fighting a few different battles.

Stop by the local Composites One location, they should a couple different types on hand and check to see which one is the clearest. Some can be clear when made, but may change color in a short time, so even a type that should be clear may have color and create issues.

As you add anything, even if it's clear, you're reducing the pigment %, lower pigment levels will change the color and cause premature weathering. We normally recommend adding as little as possible and every color is a little different, so you need to experiment a little.

The other thing that will take place is as you sand the repairs the surrounding discolored gel coat surface will be removed leaving a color identical to, or at least much closer to, the original color.
