I used to go hare shooting with my Dad up Ellend. When once hiding behind a dry stone wall he whispered me to "pass the gun" I did. When he turned to get it he was shocked to find me pointing it at him ,--- I was only about 8.

Once you have broken teeth on buck shot it puts you off a bit.

I missed it this year but the Decoy festival in Tuckerton NJ. has a bunch of sneak box builders who come out every year for the event.

The Barnegat Bay Sneak Box is a storied version of the marsh hunting boat:

If you were really trying to sneak up on ducks an electric trolling motor on low speed would be quieter than paddleing any boat. During season good luck sneaking up on ducks in any boat!

That might be fast enough to spook them.

In a canoe one uses the canadian stroke with a short paddle from a distance - keeping the paddle on the side opposite to the target - and switch to the indian stroke when getting close. Done properly IS is absolutely silent but slow, and the visible movement of the wrists and paddle top above the gunnel is hard to spot. Keep the head still! I've snuck up on any number of water creatures that way, but I've never got close to a loon!
