Most of those books are on Google, so to say. Is there a way to download them (well, some of them) in PDF form as a single file?

Yup, just follow the instructions. Worked for me. Took several clicks to get there.

edit. Select book. Go full screen. At bottom is download link. You get a new window. Select google PDF. Get new screen. Select free download box. Answer question.

I didn't have to select anything or type anything to any box.

Next to the cover picture there is a link - for example:

DOWNLOAD OLD BOOK ABOUT BUILDING BOATS AND CANOES:
    Canoe and boat building

That link takes to a page where you have a link to PDF from archive.org

Maybe I should have named the thread "Free boat plans".
