Exporting from autoship to modelmaker

Hello :

I'm working on some work for my graduation project; i'm drawing an offshore jack-up hull in Autoship,
When I finished the work, i tried to export a GF file to Modelmaker but the result was a complete failure, the curves was extremely damaged & broken.
I will be very grateful, if any one can help me to overcome this problem.
I just need to know what to do in Autoship to be sure that the model will be acceptable in Modelmaker.

 

If you have access to Rhino, try exporting the file as an iges file from AutoShip / importing to Rhino / and then exporting the GF file from Rhino.

Rhino has a standard GF export and a bonus tool GF export. The bonus tool GF export gives you a whole lot more control over the export and how it is written. I believe the 'bonus tools' are a free download.

I have had little trouble with Rhino GF exports, particularly into GHS. If you export to AutoHydro or Modelmaker you may get an 'Error 9' overflow message which crashes AutoHydro. It is really easy to fix the file to correct this. If you try this and get the error, post it and I'll explain how to fix it in detail.

Even if you don't particularly like Rhino, it has to be the best file translator in the business. If we have a file giving us trouble, it invariably goes to Rhino and it usually comes out OK. For the money it can't be beat, even if all you do is fix other problems.

The way from AutoCAD (is ACIS based) to Rhino is the following. First check if you can save the model as ACIS. Otherwise you will have problems in anyway and you have no real 3D-model. Then convert the file via steptools.com into a .step file. Read that file into Rhino.
