"A 36-year-old man was charged with unlawfully discharging a firearm." ?!? When did BB guns become 'firearms' in Australia? Methinks you folks are getting a mite carried away.

Have a look for wellington troy
. Its not in australia it is in new zealand(a remote sheep raising colony of ours).

Frosty: In the USA it is not necessary to leave the country to get the tax breaks. It is, however, illegal to travel with the intention to have sex with minors. If by getting a life you mean to pay for young prostitutes to make yourself believe somebody likes you, I rather go fishing alone.

You nasty *******. I never thought you would write something like this. Time to ignore this thread it is becoming abusive

This guy Kim Dotcom is a NZ hero taking on the FBI of the USA who the FBI have used every dirty trick in the book against him.

http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=10860320

Kim Dotcom has laid out plans for free internet for all Kiwis while claiming huge international interest in his new Mega data storage and sharing website.
The tycoon - facing extradition to the United States to answer internet piracy allegations - spoke to media this afternoon saying he had just three hours of sleep in the day leading up to the launch of his new venture.
The site was launched at 6.48am - a year after Dotcom and three colleagues were arrested and charged with copyright violation.
That's your idea of a 'hero?'

Let's see: as a teenager in Germany, he was convicted on 11 counts of computer fraud, 10 counts of data espionage, and an assortment of other charges.

Later he was extradited from Thailand back to Germany, and convicted of insider trading and embezzlement. He was then declared persona non grata in Thailand, and not allowed to return.

He's also been kicked out of Hong Kong and fined, for running an unlicensed hedge fund scam that promised 25% annual returns.

He bought his way into New Zealand, by throwing around enough of his ill-gotten money to persuade immigration officials to ignore his criminal record.

He made his current fortune by setting up a website that allows people to illegally download and store copyrighted materials.

On 5 January 2012, indictments were filed in Virginia in the United States against Dotcom and other company executives with crimes related to online piracy, including racketeering, conspiring to commit copyright infringement, and conspiring to commit money laundering.
The guy is a white-collar professional thief and a con man. And this piece of slime is a hero to you? Please....:(

My apologies to Australia. You know how it is; looking from here the two countries sort of blur together... Let me think. New Zealand is the smaller one with the Hobbits, right?:)

Your claims about him are exaggerated and twisted.

Check your facts as he gets more media than the PM or any other in nZ

Gun on boats is the thread .

I love the fear marketing.

" When I was a kid, I spent a lot of time of the coast of northern Florida and southern Georgia in a small fishing boat. My father and I loved fishing, but we rarely caught anything. .
We were in between the mainland and an island one afternoon when we came across something truly bazaar: a huge diamondback rattlesnake swimming to shore. We were drifting, attempting to fish, when the ugly snake swam up along side the boat with the idea that it might be the perfect place to take a well deserved break.

As my father tried to coax the old Evinrude outboard back to life, I held the snake off with our emergency paddle. We survived, as did the confused rattlesnake, but the situation made a lasting impression. We could have been more prepared. ".........................................

Its a dangerous world out there.

My statements about Dotcom are well-established fact; there isn't a bit of exaggeration or twisting. Everything I said is a matter of public record -- as is the fact that your immigration folks tried to keep it a secret that they granted him permanent residence in spite of his extensive criminal record, because they knew the decision smelled to High Heaven. Obviously money talks; I guarantdamntee they wouldn't have let me in with a record like that.

It isn't the FBI that looks foolish. It's your own law enforcement personnel, who proved they aren't ready for the big time because they don't know how to properly write and execute search warrants and arrest warrants. Had the FBI been in charge instead of having to work through the local yokels, things wouldn't have wound up in the legal mess they're in now.

It's disheartening, but hardly surprising, to see that Dotcom has so easily manipulated local opinion to make himself look the oppressed hero, instead of the slime bag who got caught with his hand in the cookie jar again. After all, he's a professional con man. And he's dealing with a rather naive and provincial media and populace....

I guarantee that had the FBI been in charge instead of having to work through the local yokels, things wouldn't have been the legal mess they are now.

Kim Dotcom is not a slim bag and the media would tear him apart if they could.
Nothing was kept secret as any past crime was minor and declared

In that situation, I wouldn't have shot the snake even if I could. As my dad explained it to me, "if I run into a rattlesnake in my back yard, I'll kill him to protect my children and animals. If I run into a rattlesnake in the desert I leave him alone, because I'm in his back yard."

So you're claiming this report from a New Zealand newspaper is a lie?
Immigration officials were concerned billionaire Kim Dotcom's residence application would attract "buying residence" criticism and tried to keep it a secret, new papers show.

The 38-year-old German-born Finnish national was granted New Zealand residency in November 2010 despite a string of foreign convictions and being considered persona non grata in Thailand, after immigration officials used a "special direction" to waive good character requirements.

The founder of the Megaupload file-sharing site - who is on bail awaiting an extradition hearing in August - gained residency under the Investor Plus category after investing $10 million in government bonds.

Immigration New Zealand last night released hundreds of documents about Dotcom's application requested by Fairfax Media under the Official Information Act.

The papers show concern about Dotcom "buying residence" was flagged by officials.

"We are requesting that this application be kept as confidential as possible to avoid further media speculation or attention."

Officials noted that Dotcom was of interest to the media but was "actively seeking to avoid such attention".

The fact of the matter is that Dotcom bought his way into the country in spite of his criminal record, by spending $10 million on government bonds. And Immigration New Zealand tried to keep it a secret.

Troy
you are making a mole hill into a mountain.

Kim Dotcoms a cool dude

Good character requirements were waived because Dotcom invested $10 million; was a high net worth individual; his conviction was more than 16 years earlier and didn't involve harming anyone;
The papers also show Dotcom was convicted on eight business charges in Hong Kong in December 2010 just a month after being granted conditional residency in New Zealand.
The "relatively minor" charges related to the purchase of shares on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange and resulted in a HK$8000 (NZ$1250) fine

Apparently we have different ideas about what's cool.

Jeez. Kid Dotcom is a little fellow who irritated the recording industry.....

What about big guys Marc Rich ?

You obviously have no idea of the scale on which Dotcom has operated. He makes Marc Rich look like a bumbling dilettante by comparison.

That doesn't make Rich a solid citizen, of course. But Rich never gave a government $10 million to let him into the country....
