The Surplus Center has Yanmar diesel engines on sale for $780. at https://www.surpluscenter.com/item.asp?Item=28-1684 with the following description:
New YANMAR two cylinder industrial diesel engine. Mechanical fuel pump with prime. 12 VDC starter, glow plugs and fuel shutoff solenoid. No alternator, radiator, fan blade or air cleaner. Belt-driven water pump with no belt or tensioner. Ships with muffler, gaskets, water separator, fuel filter and owners manual. Governor set up for constant speed operation. Engine conforms to 2007 USA and California EPA regulations for off-road C.I. engines.
Does anyone see a problem in using this engine in a 20 ft open dory with a Harvey FNR drive (FNR - Glen-L Plans) ?

You will have to change the governor. Otherwise it is possible. Are you planning on using a dry exhaust?
