    Looking for some advice.

I'm a two day forum expert on foils . :)

I was told fitting a wing on my rudder with 0° AOA will reduce pitching and this will simulate a longer boat. I understand how that might work.

The boat is a Schionning Waterline 1480 (48'). These are a performance cruising catamaran, weighs 7.5t loaded.

We spend most of our time in the 8 to 16 knot range.

What I would hope to gain....
    • Less pitching
    • Better pointing
    • More speed / VMG
Is it realistic or am I just putting more drag on my boat.

If it might work where do I go for design information?

Here's a bit more on the theory. This article primarily discusses dinghies but rudder T-foils alone or in combination with a more forward foil* can help on almost any size boat.
    See the following thread.

Question: would a horizontal wing on the rudder not behave as a fore and aft "flopper stopper"? If so, would that not make the boat wetter in certain sea states? Best have a really substantial set of rudder attachments as there are now vertical loads where not present before the wings. A function of the wing area I suspect.
