I'm a little late starting this thread . Here are some great links posted by JosephT in one of the "warm-up" threads:
From his post #6 in the SOLAS thread:

Let the Wild Oats & Comanche pre-race hype begin. Aside from these two boats, there is a good fleet of 100ft competitors so we should be seeing some nice competition from the big girls. In alphabetical order the Super Maxi fleet:

Black Jack - Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race 2018 http://www.rolexsydneyhobart.com/the-yachts/2018/black-jack/
Comanche - Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race 2018 http://www.rolexsydneyhobart.com/the-yachts/2018/comanche/
Infotrack - Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race 2018 http://www.rolexsydneyhobart.com/the-yachts/2018/infotrack/
Scallywag - Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race 2018 http://www.rolexsydneyhobart.com/the-yachts/2018/scallywag/
Wild Oats XI - Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race 2018 http://www.rolexsydneyhobart.com/the-yachts/2018/wild-oats-xi/

There are other interesting divisions to track as well. One of my favs is the cruising division LOL. And why not!?

2018 Sydney-Hobart-Inspiring and rewarding: 2018 Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race: Inspiring and rewarding https://www.sail-world.com/news/212456/Inspiring-and-rewarding
    Excerpt:
    Line Honours: Accomplishment and Reward
There is no other race of this distance or calibre that gathers so many of the world's most powerful 100-ft monohull yachts. The rivalry between these seaborne goliaths is intense, each craft crewed by highly skilled professional sailors from around the world. To prevail in such a talented field is a major accomplishment.

Five 100-ft Maxis will contest line honours in 2018. Wild Oats XI, owned by the Oatley family and skippered by Mark Richards, will aim to extend her record of successes to nine. Jim Cooney and Samantha Grant's Comanche will hope to repeat the success of last year which led to a new race record time of one day, nine hours, 15 minutes and 24 seconds. Christian Beck's InfoTrack and Peter Harburg's Black Jack may not appear as favoured in the pre-race title claims, but both have tasted victory under previous names and owners. Completing the line-up is Seng Huang Lee's Scallywag from Hong Kong, one of 13 overseas entrants.
    -----------------------------
    Tattersall Cup
Experience and skill matter, as does perseverance, but there is no single guarantee for success in such a complex race, especially when so much relies on the weather. It took 28 attempts for Matt Allen, a past Commodore of the CYCA and current president of the Australian sailing federation, to skipper a yacht to overall victory and receive the famous Tattersall Cup and Rolex timepiece. "The Rolex Sydney Hobart is the premier event. Everyone follows it and everyone knows the winners of this race," said Allen, after winning with Ichi Ban in 2017. "This has been a lifetime effort. It's every sailor's dream to win it."

    Weather predictions:
In an early forecast prediction, the Bureau of Meteorology's Simon Louis told a selection of navigators at a Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race press conference at the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia today to expect a little of everything in the early stages of the 628 nautical mile race.

Louis said: "The long-range weather models show relatively light winds as the yachts leave Sydney Harbour, but with a 15-20 knot (and gusts to 35 knots) north to north-easterly winds which should continue during Boxing Day night and into the next day, with the breeze expected to go around to the west later." This scenario will leave some dead spots in between.

The model is also showing a weak trough over the far NSW coast throughout this period, with lighter and more variable winds off the far south coast and into Bass Strait.

Andrew Cape, a veteran of 18 Hobarts and many Volvo Ocean Races, is navigating Christian Beck's Infotrack. He says: "It'll be good when we get the big southerly change - it's always a relief in a Hobart race. And if all goes to plan - although it's still very early to say - the record could go in one day eight hours."

Lindsay May, looking down the barrel of his 46th straight Sydney Hobart, this time on the oldest, heaviest boat in the fleet, Kialoa II, which took line honours with her original owner in 1971, has accepted that the going will be tough in the light weather for the S&S yawl now owned by Patrick and Keith Broughton.

"We're about 45 tonnes, so the light air is of course going not be favourable for us - but you live with what you get."

The Boxing Day start of the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race will be broadcast live on the Seven Network via 7Mate throughout Australia. The race start will also be live streamed to a vast international audience via the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race website www.rolexsydneyhobart.com. Tencent, Fox Asia and ABC International will also pick up the feed and broadcast to their markets.

Wild Oats XI gets new sails:
Supermaxi Wild Oats XI fully optimised for Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race 2018 https://www.sail-world.com/news/213276/Wild-Oats-XI-optimised-with-new-sails-for-RSHYR

    Excerpt:
Wild Oats XI, the most successful yacht in the long history of the Rolex Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race, will start in the classic on Boxing Day with the most efficient sail plan it has carried since first competing in the event in 2005.

Owned by the Oatley family and skippered by Mark Richards, Wild Oats XI's sail inventory for this year's race will include four new sails, from North Sails, which have been made using the very latest space-age fabrics and design technology.

"This is the first time our sail wardrobe has been fully optimised since the hull and rig modifications were completed two years ago" Mark Richards said. "We decided it was best not to introduce new sails into the wardrobe until we were certain what was needed for the yacht to achieve maximum performance in all conditions."

Richards said that after comparing performances against rival supermaxi, Comanche, in last year's Hobart race it was decided that four sails were needed, including two that were the biggest that Wild Oats XI had ever carried. One was a maximum size headsail for sailing up wind in light airs, and the other a spinnaker. Two new and smaller headsails were also added.

    From the Sydney Hobart site:
In the closest contest in the history of the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race, the four remaining super maxis in the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia’s 628 nautical mile race were separated by just five nautical miles this morning - Comanche leading the way.
UPDATE 4:17 pm eastern: Wild Oats XI is back in the lead by 2.5m over Comanche! update--at 5:40pm eastern Comanche is .4m behind WOXI-
