I have a small aluminum tank (3.5 gallons) that has been untouched, and half full of diesel fuel for almost 5 years.

With what solvent (if any) would you flush this tank?

I imagine that various sediment materials now lie at the bottom of the
tank, and I am obviously very hesitant to run the fuel itself through
    the engine.

There is no inspection port on this tank.

    Thoughts?

    Thanks.

  2. Sleep great after your next cruise. Buy a new tank.

Give it a good shake, transfer the diesel to a jerrycan and filter it meanwhile. Flush with a little petrol and you can put the diesel back.
