The kind you buy for dogs.
After it soaks in the water, it gets soft.
Cut it into strips similar looking to squid.
You think the fish would bite rawhide?

I noticed the squid is fairly easily taken by the fish, if you use a treble hook, do you think the hook up rate would rise? I think a treble hook could hold the bait more securely.

Fish will bite anything that looks like a meal. FWIW, I've seen doe leather skirts on old hula plugs. They where soaked in fish oil though. Pork rind strips are also an old bait

Depending on what you are fishing for, trebles may be illegal. Also, many baits are sewn to the hooks and a treble for large fish would be hard for it to swallow.

What I think is happening is these smaller fish nibble - grab the bait from the edges and rip it off the hooks.

What size hook for pin fish and small black sea bass?
I am using 1/0 size to size 1
