Window frames

Looking to make my cabin windows flush with the coamings. Currently they are in ali frames, no recess lip to sit the windows in. Just wondering the best way how to make that glass flange/lip to fix to the inside of tbe cabin.
Seems like a lot of fabricating, either making a mold, or making up some system of templates.
Any tips? Thanks

 

It depends on how the cabin is built. Can you post photos and a description (with dimensions) of your boat?

 

Gonzos advice is spot on.

In some cases, you could make acrylic "rims" a bit bigger than the actual window material, and either glue or bolt them to the inserts.

Then you have a "lip" on the inside to glue or screw to the inner cabin walls. To save material, the "rims" can be made from multiple sections.

That is easiest when the window material and cabin sides are similar thicknesses, eg 4mm thick plywood/steel. You get left with a region around the edges that is not optically clear that you could paint or ignore.

But, that will only be good for low stress, low weather situations.
