Sorry if its been discussed before however its something I've wondered for ages... they've been making GRP yachts/boats for nearly 50 years now and many are past their prime - what has happend to these boats, how are they disposed of and more to the point are there companies that specialise in their disposal? I've never heard of how these boats mysteriously disappear.

    Thanks.

    They don't disappear.

They just find their way to farmers' junkpiles, the sketchy hill behind the marina, etc.

You can't recycle them, and they cost a fortune to take to landfill. So, in Canada at least, they tend to just sit around in quiet corners for, well, ever. Much like nuclear waste.

An old hull makes a fine pond liner if you rip out the insides!
