Polar Curve for VPP Calibration

    Hello sailors!

    I am a former naval architect, crisis made me go on other engineer fields since few years. But boat design nostalgia is still very present :)

    I still follow my favorite forum, and was thinking to build my own VPP code with Excel + VBA. My own VPP because it is the best exercise to go back on the physic of sailing: aero, hydro, and equilibrium.

    In order to validate it, I am in search for polar curves based on full scale experimental values. Not from ITTC, towing tank series, etc...

    I am looking those data for modern hull between 16 and 8 meters LOA like Class 40, Beneteau Figaro 2, Farr 30, etc...I mean boat that have capacities to reach good speed and planning downwind, and a minimum size and weight inertia not to be too much run by dynamic responses.

    I am looking for strong references, maybe from validated papers or boat racers, to calibrate the VPP. Polar chart are usefull only if the sail configurations are known too (sail plan if possible), ballast configurations, and as much as possible sea state. Body plans are welcome too, by default I thing I can manage to approach them if boats type are in my knowledge.

    Well, I know that it is a big request but isn't it the only way to get confident in our calculation?

    That's a very complete document, thank you very much, even if I unfortunatly don't read german. VPP charts are based on true scale mesurement, wich are quite precious datas!
