explain the very rough surface of Gators and Crocs, hydrodynamically

    seems lots of reason that MIGHT explain the bumps. I notice land based lizards will have similar smooth belly, rough back. Smooth belly is of course to avoid hanging up on ground. I'm guessing its mostly temperature regulation, and there would be neckwork of blood vessels that can expend or contract to control flow, and that temp reg is a big deal for gators and crocs because they need to stay near water, so have less options to regulate the amount of sun they get.
