Hello everyone, nice to see this thread still lives!

Remember the Eco-Flettner's rotor retrofit of the m/v FEHN POLLUX? Now a similar installation by that company on another ship - Annika Braren - IMO 9849148 - ShipSpotting.com - Ship Photos and Ship Tracker http://www.shipspotting.com/gallery/photo.php?lid=3291422

Also, notice how the rotor was improved with some ridges than being completely smooth.

    Very interesting. Thanks.
I wonder if the ridges actually contribute anything, or are just construction aids?

    For reference purposes

The "drag" effect provides forward momentum to the ship.

    Just a couple of additions.
First, fun model Flettner radio controlled model link.

Second, a "new and improved" version of Jeremy Harris' force calculator, with various notes and conversions.

The video was a perfect lesson in how to waste effort and resources.

It's not a waste if someone learns from it.

Exactly. So many principles to explore, and significant success.
That speed in very light airs is very typical of a Rotor.
As is the tendency to capsize when the wind is fore or aft of the boat.
That has been mentioned before by the dinghy sailor (Stephen Thorpe) with the rotor.
