    Not sure about the way Gonzo does it but I just epoxy the tape on the seams the paint protects the ply well enough if it's not abused to bad. Although I have had a little 13' that i built that way that lived about 30' from the high water mark I just dragged it to the water when i wanted to use it and it lasted for 5 years with no ill effects with only a yearly painting my son now uses regularly over his summer break from school and she's still solid.

    No epoxy, polyester and mat. These are economy boats. They last at least three years.
