    Hi Guys & Girls
I need some advice on a material issue !
I’m building a power boat console in split Mould
The front in clear coat carbon the back in standard polyester gel coat.
My problem is that I want to layup the carbon with epoxy clear UV let it cure, then pigment the vinyl-ester to black and layup standard biax.
The back will be done in standard polyester
Then I will bond the two half’s together and tape it with vinylester.
    Question ?
Will the vinyl ester stick to the epoxy ?
    Thank you in advance
    Jerry

Why do you want to use epoxy on the front half.

Hi ...thanks for the reply !
I have a method of using thin plastic either side pre wetted out for the carbon 3k , so using any ester resin will melt the plastic and ruin the weave. Cheers j

Even epoxy rated for UV exposure doesn't hold up that well in the sun, so if this boat is outside much that nice clear epoxy over the carbon will turn yellow and deteriorate.

    Can VE stick to epoxy.....yes...but.

It will depend on the exact epoxy, the hardener, how well it's cured, surface prep, and the exact VE resin, then it may still not be great. If the part is stressed much it may still fail. Most people that mix and match the two resins will only use ones that they know work together through prior experience with them.

Agreed, I'd use an all VE laminate, just to insure things stay stuck.
