Does anybody know the most important rules regarding elevators on yachts, dumb waiters in fact. Are there special safety regulations regarding their installation by the major class societies?

All lifts or elevators have safety regulations they have to comply to when the transport of people is involved.

If you want to know what they are you can contact a lift installer like Ottis, they should be able to give you the requirements. Don't be surprised if it looks like an encyclopedia set.

Must agree with Fanie on the subject of safe working/installation practices as supplied by the elevator manufactures.
Would add that the Classification Societies will also look at the elevator trunking in respect to maintaining fire and watertight boundaries.

Thanks! Well, we're keeping it simple: no people transport, just a dumb waiter. From what I've found so far, the doors have to be A60 and I guess that means walls of the the lift tower as well.
