Would it be possible to convert this old river rowing boat into a sea sailing one? If yes, what would you gurus recommend?

Not ocean worthy.... methink, would cost more money to modify it may as well buy a true sea worthy sail boat, Full plan is is not much compare to the satisfaction you get. Try Paul Gartside Ltd, nice classic wooden sail boat. Good luck.

It looks like a wherry hull shape. Try this website for ideas:

    gggGuest ...

Rather a shame - it looks quite nice of its type as it is, whereas as a Sailboat conversion it will be fairly nasty...

    Timagal,
While it COULD be converted, it will take a lot of work. There would need to be more and stronger ribs, thwarts would be required, and probably some sort of centreboard or daggerboard unless it has a deepish external keel member (doubtful for a river boat. The transom would need reinforcing, probably, to take the loads of a rudder, and it would basically be easier to buy a sailing boat, and keep that old beauty for rowing.

Very interesting pages (you guys got me hooked). And thank you all for your wise opinions: luffing is more of my thing, so I'll leave the savolais idea aside and get something with a keel.

    Thumbs up!
