I looked at the weights of the seacart 30 1060kg
    seaon 9.6 3000lbs
    F31 about 4000lbs

and the DF31 kurt hughes design 2250 lbs...

why is kurts boat lighter than the carbon fiber boats?

I'm going to go out on a limb here and suggest that the reason one boat weighs less than the other is because there's more stuff in the other boat. Either that, or physics is involved in some way.

There are other dimensions other than length of hull. width, height, overall width of the boat. Even curving the deck can take off several hundred pounds.

I kinda remember that if it is a Kurt Hughs cylinder build design, there is glass reinforcement only on the outside of the hull.

Also, let’s compare apples with apples… Are we talking unladen weight or displacement? Looking at other catamarans in that range, I would suggest that those figures are more likely to be displacement (unladen boat plus designed payload) in which case one is designed to carry less load than another.

The Farrier F9R is the homebuilders equivalent to the Corsair F31.
    Ian Farrier specs for F9R
    approx bare weight-2750lbs
    load capacity-2700lbs.

Farrier has a website if you want to check his homebuilt versions and i have just started building a F82R.

    Sweet!

I ordered the plans and materials for the DF31 swing wing design.

I'm going with Rohacell, s glass outside skin and I want to do a carbon/kevlar inner skin but I'm not sure I can swing that.

    good to see ya baron!
