so I had to repair a hull of a boat I made , sanding down almost to the glass material , so needed to spray a new gelcoat layer over the hull and of course it needs sanding , can I dry sand say at 180/240 grit before I go too wet sanding to take the top of the gelcoat down a little ?
    Cheers

Yes, just use what's needed to take it down, but you will need to removed those scratches so don't over do it. Doing it with a DA won't leave many scratches though.
