I started watching Pacific last night and cant wait to get all the DVDs

Amazing feats of Heroizim and sacrifice buy our troops to give us the freedom that we enjoy.

I miss the old-timers who told me about their involvement in both theaters, Atlantic and Pacific. One was on a troop transport that still had a torpedo stuck in it unexploded. Another was merchant marine on an ammo ship. One actually worked for the nazis building subs. Another was injured on 12 07, 1941 in Pearl Harbor. One rode the lead tank into a concentration camp full of people in striped pajamas. The Holocaust was not a myth. One delivered the first Bailey Bridge to the Rhine River. Those guys had more decorations than a Christmas tree.

 

Frank Capra made the best films.

 

In 1939 my 19yr old father was training as a ships radio officer, he tried to join RNZNavy, no intake so he enlisted with RNZAF. 1940 he was shipped to UK with 75th Squadron Bomber Command to serve two tours on 1000 bomber raids over Germany.
In 1943 he was demobbed to NZ then recommissioned for the Pacific arena with 208 Squadron. On one return flight from a solo raid his crew spotted a Japanese sub on the surface that they then sank. One day prior to Japanese surrender he shot down a Japanese fighter bomber, the last recorded air combat action by ANZAC forces in WWII.

Everyone of them amazing men who rose to the occassion and prevailed.

I have to say I found it pretty boring and haven't managed to get to the end

palm trees, shooting, mud, blood, over and over and over again

I am enjoying "Band of Brothers" more.

It was called Das Boot in the USA. What did they call it in Germany?

Very Good Movie. I actually watched it for the first time while underway on a misse boat. I think it was a requirement to scare the **** out of sailors by making us watch every Submarine Movie ever made.
